WATERSKI COURSE AT PUTRAJAYA INSTALLED – OPERATIONS WILL COMMENCE ON 2nd SEPTEMBER 2008 WITH THE WATERSKI DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
The Putrajaya Water Sports Complex is now the only waterski & wakeboard centre that has an IWSF homologated slalom course in Malaysia.
IWSF’s Homologator, Nigel Talamo had been in Putrajaya this month to supervise the set up of the 3-event course at the Putrajaya Waterski World Cup site. The course for slalom, tricks and jump events were successfully installed at the World Cup site. Talamo had made the initial checks on the readings of all the dimensions in his initial homologation check.
He certified it “extremely accurate and ready to go...”. He will arrive the week before the World Cup event scheduled for the 7 to 9 November 2008 to give the course the final certification.
Meanwhile the course has been shifted about 150m across to the Pullman Putrajaya Hotel/maritime Centre side of the Water Sports Complex. This location is cited as the “school site” where daily waterski & wakeboard operations will start from the Tuesday, 2nd of September 2008.
According to Linden Warner, the director of operations who will run the Putrajaya Waterski & Wakeboard School with the Secretary and chief coach of the Malaysian Water Ski Federation, Phillipa Yoong, the commencement of operations will coincide with the training of the school children from the Putrajaya schools as well as the children of the residents of Putrajaya.
Warner said, “This waterski development programme is supported initially by the Waterski & Wakeboard World Cup (WWWC), the Malaysian Water Ski Federation (MWSF) and Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj). WWWC will provide the support staff and equipment while the MWSF, the coaching expertise and PPj the venue and infrastructure.”
He added that, “We will target up to 100 school children who are keen to learn waterskiing and who have the support of their parents from the age group of 10 to 15. The training is substantially sponsored and all they need bring is their enthusiasm and the ability to cover 50% of the costs of skiing. All manpower, materials and coaching are sponsored.”
Members of the public and tourists who are in Malaysia can look forward to another venue of waterskiing & wakeboarding with this latest addition in Putrajaya. There are two other waterski & wakeboard centres operating in the Klang Valley. One is situated in the Mines Resort near Sungai Besi while the other is located at Tasik Desa Prima in Puchong.
The rates of waterskiing, wakeboarding, hire of waterski boat for tubing and kneeboarding in Putrajaya are RM240 per hour for weekdays (except public holidays) and RM300 for weekends and public holidays. Enthusiasts can contact WWWC or MWSF at email:
office@waterski.com.my or tel: 03 8926 1054 or fax: 03 8926 1504 for more information and bookings. All waterski or wakeboard activities must be made via bookings and no walk-ins are accepted to avoid disappointment.
